Steps For Making the Best Pancakes at Home
Follow these simple steps to cook and make the fluffiest pancakes at home:
- Sift all your dry ingredients together in a bowl.
- Create a well in the middle of the sifted dry ingredients then add the wet ingredients.
- Whisk until smooth and combined. Do not to overmix.
- The batter should be thick, but not runny. Be sure to follow the recipe quantities to get the right consistency. If you think the batter is too thick, add a bit of milk, around 1 tablespoon at a time. If you think the batter is too thin, add a bit of flour, a tablespoon at a time.
- Prepare a scoop which can be a 1/3 or 1/2 measuring cup.
- Heat up a heavy bottomed pan to medium heat. Use a thermometer if you have one. Melt some butter (around 1/2 tablespoon) until it reaches 150C or around 300F.
- Pour the batter over the pre-heated pan. If your batter is the right consistency, it will automatically form a nice circular shape. Leave it to cook for a around 1-2 minutes before touching it.
- Wait until bubbles appear at the center of the pancake. The time it takes depends on your pan and your hob, but this should take around 1-2 minutes.
- Using a flat kitchen utensil, flip the pancake. Be careful no to splatter any uncooked batter on yourself!
- Usually by this time, it will take quicker for the other side of the pancake to cook and have a golden brown color. Try to lift the pancake every now and then to check that it hasn't burned.
- Flip the pancake and check both sides are golden. Cook any side that you feel is a bit too pale.
- Transfer to a plate and this is ready to serve!
